Outdoors San Francisco Events: The Polar Plunge & 5K Fun Run/ Walk
February 21, 2015
Would you take a dip in the chilly San Francisco Bay to support a worthy cause? Raise funds (minimum $125) for Special Olympics Northern California, and then take the Polar Plunge. Join other daring fundraisers at this free event on February 21, 2015. You’ll be sure to give your system a shock and get your blood pumping once you make that splash at Aquatic Park.
If you dare to take the Polar Plunge, you’ll receive a free sweatshirt and admission to all the activities after you plunge. This will be a great time to socialize with others who braved the brisk waters in support of charity. If you’d rather stay dry, you can do the walk/run only to receive a free 5K t-shirt souvenir. Register for $45 from now until the day before the event and for $50 on the day-of.
Join thousands of locals and visitors alike in San Francisco who participate in this challenge. Individuals, organizations, schools and businesses all take that leap into the Bay – many wearing creative costumes. Proceeds support nearly 20,000 Special Olympics athletes in Northern California and Nevada.
Go ahead, and kick it up a notch from the ice bucket challenge. California may boast mild temperatures year round, but the Bay still isn’t exactly balmy this time of year! Whether you want to seek that exhilarating thrill or enjoy a 5K trot at your own pace, you’ll be in the company of other active outdoors enthusiasts. Complete the dash portion of the event, and you’ll jog along a scenic route with signature San Francisco views including the Golden Gate Bridge and a number of other well-known landmarks.
