San Francisco Events - San Francisco Ballet's The Nutcracker 2015

The Nutcracker as performed by the San Francisco Ballet is a long held holiday tradition in the city, drawing audiences from all over the Bay Area and beyond. In fact, The Nutcracker had its American debut at the San Francisco Ballet in 1944. As choreographed by Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson, it’s a masterpiece that charms younger audiences as well as those more seasoned. The show is recommended for those ages 5 and older.

Performed in the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House, the familiar notes of Tchaikovsky’s classic composition are equated with holiday cheer. The story of the young girl Clara, and the Christmas gift of a fanciful Nutcracker Prince from her uncle Drosselmeyer, holds a special place in children’s hearts. The ballet is often the first children see, and it has spurred many an inspired ballerina to beg her parents for lessons, ballet slippers and tutus.

The San Francisco Ballet performances run Dec. 16-31, at 2 pm and 7 pm. Two 11 pm performances will take place on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. There are no performances on Christmas Day. Tickets are available for special Family showings, VIP Box Experiences, Premium viewings and Extra Value viewings. Group rates are also available. The War Memorial Opera House is located in the San Francisco Civic Center, not far from Hotel Nikko. It’s easy to reach via Muni, taxi or hired car. There are also several parking garages and some metered street parking within short walking distance of the Opera House. For more information, go to the San Francisco Ballet website.
