Just 2 miles from Hotel Nikko, the Bay Area celebrates the Fourth of July with a festive all-day waterfront party, from PIER 39 to Aquatic Park. One of the most iconic annual events in San Francisco, few things compare to watching a flurry of fireworks shimmer off the city’s world-famous Bay. Of course, more than just explosive colors fill the air, with a day of live outdoor music, mouthwatering local food, tons of activities, and loads of family fun in the sun starting at noon. A few of the day’s main events include:
PIER 39
WJM (entrance plaza) – Three California 5th graders comprise this jaw-dropping rock group.
Mobility (Noon-3pm) – The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West.
Tainted Love (5-8pm) – A spirited cover band specializing in hits from the 1980s.
Aquatic Park
Super Huey (6pm) – Hits from Huey Lewis and The News are this band’s specialty.
Notorious (7:45pm) – You never know what this Bay Area cover group might come up with!
Tips for Viewing the Fireworks
Needless to say, the area gets pretty packed for the fireworks at 9:30pm. It’s always smart to arrive and claim a spot as early as possible. Many consider PIER 39 the best place to view the show, but Aquatic Park, Ghirardelli Square, and the promenade behind Bistro Boudin are also viable options. For a truly unforgettable experience, book a Fourth of July Fireworks Cruise with Adventure Cat or Bay Voyager on PIER 39, the Blue & Gold Fleet on Pier 41, Red & White Fleet on Pier 43½, or dockside viewing aboard the SS Jeremiah O’Brien at Pier 45.
