Earn your turkey and stuffing this Thanksgiving by running in the 13th Annual San Francisco Turkey Trot and Pilgrim Promenade Fun Run and Walk! Setting off from the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park, the race is a cross-country style course that returns to the starting line for the finish. It's mostly flat over natural terrain with some meadows and dirt trails. Here's some motivation for rising at the crack of dawn to run 5 miles in the morning chill on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 26):
- Running the 5-mile Turkey Trot burns 600 calories
- Walking the 3-mile Pilgrim Promenade burns 300 calories
- Kids in the 100-meter Gobbler Chase will burn 8 calories
The Kids' Gobbler Chase takes off at 8 am before the main event. It's free for those who have an adult in the Trot or Promenade, and it's only for those poults age 10 and younger. The starting gun for the Turkey Trot and Pilgrim Promenade will go off at 8:40 am. Of course, there will be awards. The first place "dude" and "lady" runner will each receive a $100 Sports Basement gift card plus turkey, Shubert's Bakery pie and wine for. There are also age group awards and all kids who run the Gobbler Chase will receive an award and treats.
There is only advance registration for this race, and no day-of registration. Registration will close once the 1,400 participants mark has been reached. The fee is $37. To get a sense of what you're in for, check out the San Francisco Turkey Trot 2015 website.
